Révolution Review
A dramatically different take on BoB games that I found engaging. The factions which replace setting elements give a new dimension to the game, one which inspires asymmetrical interpersonal play, giving the game a different feel from many other BoB games.
I really love the Power Track as a safety mechanism, since it seems to both preserve player agency in PvP play, but also incentives that very behavior. I want to spend some time with this mechanism.
Replacing tokens with the tarot deck adds a slight random limiting element to what strong moves are available to players at any time, but I think the modified celtic cross spread used to describe the inciting political event that begins the story a brilliant addition.
The game also has a very rooted sense of place, providing a map of Paris to mark up, and three years, each one a specific stage of the revolution with its own ambiance, to set your game in.
…and all this is setting aside the evocative and dense character playbooks, each one describing someone I desperately want to explore!
